It's wintertime, which means colder temperatures and plenty of snow! While this winter weather can be beautiful, it can also be damaging to your trees. Let's discuss some simple tips that you can follow to help keep your trees healthy and safe throughout the winter season.

It's important to winterize your trees before the cold weather sets in. This means giving them a good deep watering so that they are well hydrated going into winter. You should also wrap any young or delicate trees in burlap or another type of fabric to protect them from the cold and wind.

If you are concerned that your trees may be subject to frost damage, you can take some simple precautions to help protect them. One thing you can do is to spread a layer of mulch around the base of your trees. This will help insulate the soil and keep it from freezing. You can also try using a water bag – this is a bag made of an insulating material that you fill with water and then place around the trunk of your tree. This will help keep the tree moist and protect it from cold weather damage.

Once winter is in full swing, you'll need to be on the lookout for snow and ice damage. Heavy snow and ice can weigh down branches and even break them, so it's important to remove any buildup that you see. You can use a broom or rake to gently dislodge the snow and ice, being careful not to damage the tree itself.

If you live in an area where it gets very cold, you may also want to consider using a tree heater. This is a device that goes around the trunk of the tree and emits heat, helping to keep the tree warm and protected from the cold.

Following these simple tips will help to ensure that your trees stay safe and healthy throughout winter.
